My Microsoft Experience

For the year of 1996, I worked in house at Microsoft’s Research Institute. The project involved working alongside the Research Unit Head in Sydney as part of the completion of my Bachelor degree in Information and Communication Systems. The project was interesting. It involved creating a prototyping tool written in C++ to simulate the input/output automata model used in distributed systems. In that project we utilized Microsoft’s Visual C++ (which I also happened to use on an object oriented project that same year in university).

The following year, I joined Intellisol International, a Great Plains Software partner, as an analyst / programmer, building accounting and ERP applications. Intellisol had a strong product offering, having created Advanced Purchase Order Processing and Project Accounting modules for Great Plains. During this time, the internet was starting to grow, and we built web based solutions utilizing Microsoft’s Active Server Pages technology (ASP) and Microsoft Site Server, Commerce Edition. Great Plains software worked well with the Microsoft technology stack.

A few years later in December 2001, Microsoft would acquire Great Plains Software, to ultimately become Microsoft Dynamics GP. At the time I was architecting web solutions for one of the largest web design agencies in Europe. Not long afterwards, I would spend the next few years with different Microsoft Gold Partners designing and developing solutions from London to New York.
